Under the direction and dedication of PDA members Tate Pursell and Bryan Stewart, as well as the Certificate in Board Governance for Veterans Task Force (consisting of Nick Florio, Karen Henneberger, Tara Lewelling and Ian Schneller) the Private Directors Association (PDA) has created a study curriculum specifically directed to PDA members who are veterans of military, civil, and first-response organizations. The program is a two-hour interactive, self-paced course of study. It culminates with a multiple-choice test and two-hour Live session conducted by senior members of the PDA. The registration fee for the course is $199 for PDA members and $279 for non-members.

Many professionals who chose military, public service, federal, state, or municipal agencies, and first response careers have not had the opportunity to gain the specialized knowledge and practical experience relevant to corporate board service in the private sector. The skill set gaps are generally very uniform across these three groups. Providing a structured, well-thought-out curriculum will address this need more efficiently and effectively. This is likely one of the most fulfilling chapters in their professional pursuits via a new application of their unique experience. This course educates these individuals on how to:

  • Effectively evaluate the opportunities and potential risks they need to thoroughly evaluate prior to joining a board
  • How to develop a bespoke professional development plan to accelerate their transition to board service
  • How to effectively prepare for their first board interview
  • How to successfully transition into their first compensated board role
  • Map the valuable skills and experiences gained in their service to the civilian needs of a company board
  • Review samples of board documents of former military, public service, and safety professionals

Includes a Live, Mentor-led Case Study Session:

Once the self-paced online component has been completed, you must schedule and participate in one two-hour live mentor-led case study session facilitated by an experienced private company director.

Benefits:

  • Apply what you’ve learned to real-world case studies with guidance from an experienced mentor
  • Peer collaboration and networking with other PDA members
