Overview

Join the PDA DC chapter, co-hosted by LCDA and in partnership with Grant Thornton to hear from trade, transfer pricing, and tax policy experts and sitting Audit Chairs to explore how your board can approach strategy and governance in the midst of uncertain and shifting global tax policies and business regulations.

In this session, we will also discuss the impacts of these policies on the global supply chain, currency valuations, and supplier/customer responses. . Even if you aren't a multinational company, your customers and suppliers may face impacts which are detrimental to your relationship and your business model.

David Sites
Principal, International Tax Services
Grant Thornton

David leads the firm's International Tax practice, which focuses on global tax planning, cross border merger and acquisition structuring, and working with global organizations in a variety of other international tax areas. David has extensive experience in U.S. federal income tax planning, tax due diligence, direct and indirect tax planning, foreign tax credit optimization, tax efficient intellectual property planning, U.S. inbound and outbound investment tax strategy, specialized aspects of foreign asset and account reporting. 

He has particularly strong experience regarding the application of ASC 740 to worldwide consolidated financial statements being prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Since the enactment of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, David has focused significantly on the international aspects of this extensive legislation and its impact on clients. 

David acts as a liaison between Grant Thornton (U.S.) and Grant Thornton member firms around the world. His experience working on complex cross-border tax issues coupled with his personal relationships with professionals around the globe provides his clients with unique access to coordinated global advice, leading to better tax planning outcomes. 

David is a past Chair of the AICPA's International Tax Technical Resource Panel, and is frequently quoted in industry and business publications. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

 


James Mitchell

James is the Founder of JMJ Advisors, a consulting firm specializing in corporate governance, strategic leadership, and risk mitigation. With 25 years as a GE business leader, he has deep expertise in corporate finance, institutional investing, cybersecurity, internal auditing, digital transformation, M&A, and regulatory compliance. His governance roles include NY State Common Retirement Fund (Investment Advisory Committee), Fora Financial (Board Chair), Azuria Water Solutions (Audit Chair), Horizon Mutual Holdings (Audit, Compliance & Risk Committee), and The Metropolitan Opera House @ Lincoln Center. He previously served as a Board Director at Choice Financial Group.

A Qualified Financial Expert proficient in GAAP and non-GAAP accounting, James provides oversight for enterprise risk, financial disclosures, and internal controls. As a Senior GE lobbyist, he led advocacy strategies on global legislative issues and asset disposition requiring government approval.

James developed an industry-best practice portfolio, investing $800MM in women- and minority-owned financial services firms. He evaluated 200+ investment opportunities and closed 50 transactions. As CIO of a $5.0B investment portfolio, he executed private equity and absolute return strategies.

Named a “Director to Watch in 2023” by Private Company Director Magazine, James is Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Xavier University of Louisiana. He holds a B.S. in finance from Purdue University and an MBA from The Wharton School.
