Shaping the Future of PE Governance Education: Spotlight on the Private Equity Portfolio Company Certificate Task Force

Committees & Task Forces

In response to the growing need for specialized education in private equity (PE) governance, PDA launched the PE Portfolio Company Certificate Task Force in 2025. This strategic initiative was formed to support PDA members interested in serving on PE-backed boards by developing and refining the certificate program.

“This work is about more than filling a curriculum gap,” said Greg Head, Task Force Chair and At-Large member. “It’s about enabling better governance outcomes across the sector.”

A seasoned CEO, business owner, former Family Office founder, and independent board director with private equity experience, Head brings a deeply informed perspective to the role. “What engages me is the purpose and the opportunity to directly shape a program that elevates the profession of independent board directors,” he said. “Strong governance creates stronger companies.”

The Task Force is responsible for stewarding the certificate program’s content and ensuring alignment with PDA’s strategic vision. Its broader role includes building relationships with private equity firms and portfolio company leaders—creating a bridge between PDA members and the unique demands of this fast-paced market.

Task Force members bring deep governance experience and sector-specific knowledge, including international M&A, digital strategy, operational leadership, and investment expertise. “The diversity of thinking and backgrounds ensures everything we develop is grounded and built for impact,” Head said.

The group uses a structured, three-part approach to decision-making: industry benchmarking, member and sponsor feedback, and iterative pilot testing. This helps the Task Force remain responsive to member needs and evolving market trends.

Looking ahead, the task force is focused on refining course content and laying the foundation for a dedicated alumni network. Plans include exclusive webinars, mentorship opportunities, and a private CommUnity group for ongoing discussion and learning. “We’re not just creating a program—we’re building a community of practice,” said Head.

Members interested in engaging can enroll in the certificate course, participate in pilot modules, contribute expertise, or apply to join the Task Force in future volunteer cycles. “We want our members involved at every level,” Head emphasized. “Together, we’re building something designed to have a lasting impact.”
