Boards, Talent and AI: Governing Workforce Strategy for the Next Decade

Overview

AI and automation are reshaping roles at a pace that is creating strategic whiplash for many boards, even as human capital becomes an increasingly central driver of enterprise value. This session will explore how boards should rethink their oversight of talent over the next 5–10 years linking major shifts such as AI adoption, upskilling, workforce disruption, and demographic change to concrete governance practices.

We aim to ground the discussion in real-world examples of upskilling initiatives and AI-in-the-workplace programs, while focusing on how boards can elevate human capital from a back-office metric to a standing strategic agenda item. The conversation will emphasize stronger workforce oversight, better people data, management accountability for reskilling and culture, and ethical AI adoption. It will also connect to the broader theme of “humans, skills, and robots,” highlighting how boards can champion practical upskilling and human-centric AI to keep organizations competitive while placing people at the center of the future of work.

**It pays to register early: The first 40 registrations will receive a copy of keynote speaker Trond Undheim’s recently-published book, “The Platinum Workforce: How to Train and Hire for the 21st Century’s Industrial Transition,” compliments of FEI-Boston.
